Delilah’s story almost ended before it ever had the chance to begin.
She was found on a feedlot—pregnant, scared, and just moments away from being loaded onto a truck bound for slaughter. When we asked about her, it was confirmed… she was carrying a baby.
We couldn’t walk away.
Just four days later, Delilah was home with us at Grandma’s Barn Rescue & Sanctuary.
But safety didn’t mean trust—at least not yet.
Delilah arrived terrified of everything and everyone. She kept her distance, unsure of this new world and the people in it. The only one she seemed to accept, even just a little, was Frankie. Quietly and patiently, Frankie would sit with her while she ate, never asking for anything in return—just showing her, day by day, that maybe… we were worth trusting.
That maybe… she was finally safe.
With time, patience, and unwavering love, Delilah began to change.
The donkey who once couldn’t be touched slowly started to soften. In less than six months, she went from untouchable to allowing her hooves to be trimmed without sedation—a milestone that once felt impossible.
A big part of that transformation is thanks to Cindy, our incredible “donkey whisperer” and wild equine vet, whose guidance and understanding helped Delilah learn how to feel safe in a world that once terrified her.
But Delilah’s greatest teacher came in the most unexpected way…
Her daughter.
On August 13, 2025, just two months after arriving at the barn, Delilah gave birth to baby Winnie.
Winnie came into this world without fear. She trusted from the very beginning—curious, brave, and open-hearted in a way her mom had never been allowed to be.
And through Winnie, Delilah learned.
She watched her baby approach us without hesitation. She saw her find comfort, safety, and love in the very people she once feared. And slowly, gently, Delilah began to follow her lead.
Today, Delilah not only trusts us—she trusts us with her baby.
She has allowed us, and especially Frankie, to be part of Winnie’s life from the very beginning—a quiet, powerful sign of just how far she has come.
Delilah’s journey is one of resilience, patience, and healing—the kind that only happens when an animal is finally given the chance to feel safe.
She was once moments from slaughter…
Now she is home.
Loved. Protected. And finally at peace.

Rainy’s story began in a moment of urgency.
She was rescued from the Stanislaus shelter just moments before euthanasia—alongside her eight tiny, three-week-old puppies. Emaciated, exhausted, and clearly overwhelmed, Rainy had every reason to be shut down… but she wasn’t.
She was sweet.
Even in her most fragile state, Rainy greeted the world with a gentle, trusting spirit—as if she knew she had finally been given a chance.
And she didn’t waste it.
From the moment she arrived at Grandma’s Barn Rescue & Sanctuary, Rainy fit right in. What could have been a long road of fear and uncertainty instead became a story of resilience, motherhood, and quiet strength.
She poured everything she had into her puppies—protecting them, nurturing them, and giving them the best possible start, even after everything she had been through.
And as her babies grew, so did she.
Rainy began to heal—not just physically, but emotionally. The confusion faded, her strength returned, and her personality started to shine in the most beautiful ways.
Today, Rainy is thriving.
She has found her place here at the barn, fully embracing ranch life like she was always meant for it. From following along during chores to soaking up the rhythm of daily life, Rainy is happiest when she’s part of it all.
And somewhere along the way… she found her person.
Rainy and Frankie have formed a special bond, the kind that doesn’t need words—just presence, trust, and quiet companionship. She is his shadow, his partner, and the perfect addition to the life we’ve built here.
From moments away from losing everything…
to a life filled with purpose, love, and belonging.
Rainy’s story is a reminder that even in the most urgent, uncertain moments - there is still room for hope.
And sometimes, all it takes is one chance.

Some stories don’t start with a plan… they start with a feeling.
We went to meet Frankie—just to meet her.
No plans, no expectations… just a visit.
And then she walked up, looked right at me, and licked my face.
And that was it.
Game over.
From that moment on, she was ours—and we were completely, hopelessly in love.
Frankie is a blue nose pitbull with a personality bigger than life itself. She brings joy everywhere she goes, to everyone she meets. Raised in a yoga studio, she’s grown up surrounded by people, energy, and connection—and she has more friends than we can count.
She’s the kind of dog who doesn’t just exist in a space… she fills it.
At the barn, she’s more than part of the routine—she’s part of the family.
The donkeys love her—especially Winnie. In the mornings, they’ll stand side by side, happily sharing grain out of the same bucket like it’s the most normal thing in the world. It’s one of those small, magical moments that perfectly captures who Frankie is… gentle, trusting, and completely at home wherever she goes.
Even our senior dogs, Zeus and Buddha, have learned to embrace her endless enthusiasm (whether they planned to or not 😉).
And her dad?
Completely obsessed.
In a way that’s hard to explain unless you’ve experienced it—she’s that once-in-a-lifetime soul dog.
But Frankie’s life hasn’t always been easy.
She has the most extreme—and honestly, extremely adorable—overbite. It was so severe that she had to have her lower front teeth removed because they were puncturing the roof of her mouth.
And that was just the beginning.
In a single year, Frankie went through bilateral elbow dysplasia surgery and two TPLO surgeries. Recovery wasn’t easy, but if you know Frankie, you know she faced it all the same way she faces everything else—with love, resilience, and a wagging tail.
She never let any of it define her.
If anything, it just made her shine even brighter.
And through it all, she gave back in the most beautiful way.
When Rainy’s puppies arrived, Frankie stepped right into the role of auntie without hesitation. Gentle, patient, and endlessly sweet, she helped care for them like they were her own—watching over them, playing with them, and showing them what it means to feel safe and loved.
She is joy.
She is resilience.
She is love in its purest form.
Frankie didn’t just find a home with us…
she became the heart of it.
